Families and students come first during Kindergarten registration at local public schools. The Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) has transformed the way Kindergarten students are introduced to their new schools. Departing from the traditional registration process, which often centers around paperwork and the potential for information overload, the LKDSB has created a more engaging and welcoming experience for families.
Instead of spending valuable time filling out forms during the registration process, families complete the simple steps online at a time that is convenient for them prior to the visit. When families arrive at their child's school, a simple verification process takes place, allowing the open house style events to focus on what really matters: getting children excited for and comfortable in their new school environment.
"At the LKDSB, we believe that the transition to Kindergarten should be a fun, warm, and welcoming experience," explains Ben Hazzard, Superintendent of Elementary Education. "By shifting the focus away from paperwork and information handouts, children and families can spend more time exploring their new school, meeting our incredible staff, and forming a positive connection with their future classroom and peers. These moments build the foundation for many successful and enjoyable school years ahead."
The feedback from families who have participated in the new registration process has been overwhelmingly positive. Parents appreciate the relaxed atmosphere, which allows their child to experience school for the first time at their own pace. The focus on a welcoming environment and interactive stations ensures that children feel at ease and are excited to begin their educational journey.
The LKDSB's Kindergarten registration events will take place on January 30th from 4:00PM-7:00PM and January 31st from 9:00AM-3:00PM at all elementary schools across Chatham-Kent and Sarnia Lambton.
