Rocky Sands and Jesse Sands (from Walpole Island) came to Wheatley Area Public School to do a presentation to some classes about hunting and trapping. They brought with them some traps, pelts and other artifacts. The kids enjoyed listening to the elders stories and getting to ask them questions. We are so thankful that we got to have this opportunity and are looking forward to when we can hear from them again!

🌟 Celebrating Black History Month at LKDSB 🌟 Every February, we reflect on the incredible achievements and contributions of Black Canadians. But at LKDSB, we believe in celebrating Black history year-round. Our educators bring Black history, voices, and perspectives into classrooms every day, fostering understanding and respect for the cultural contributions that have shaped our world. This February, join us as we shine a spotlight on events, lessons, and activities across our Board to honour the lasting legacy of Black Canadians. It’s an opportunity for students, families, and communities to learn, celebrate, and be inspired by the remarkable individuals who’ve shaped our past—and continue to shape our future. We invite you to explore the rich history of Black Canadians, including the powerful stories from our own local communities. Together, let’s build a more inclusive, compassionate, and prosperous Canada, today and every day!✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽
